Bishop Magee admits ‘errors’ on handling of abuse claims

Ya think?  Are the miters just way too tight and cut off the blood to the brain or what?

BISHOP OF Cloyne Dr John Magee has signalled he will not be resigning although he says he takes full responsibility for the “errors” made in relation to the management of child sexual abuse claims in his diocese. Speaking at Christmas Eve midnight Mass in Cobh Cathedral, he again apologised to all victims of clerical sexual abuse and particularly to those who were abused by priests in the Cloyne diocese.

He said he was determined to ensure that such abuse was unlikely to recur in the diocese. He also said he would report to the people of the diocese early in the new year on the implementation of changes.

The Sex Abuse Crisis is behind us…

Published by John Gibson under Uncategorized

NOT…

Out of Maine comes this bit of Episcopal Stupidity™ that seems to affect a majority (Not all… but most) bishops…

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/29/AR2008122901797.html

So… you want to speak with a Bishop about the sexual abuse crisis… don’t expect a warm welcome.  I guess they don’t like to be reminded of their mistakes.

But that is ok… As I have said, their have blown their credibility, and this simply just digs them deeper in.

Perhaps it is to fulfill what was said by Christ..  “Will there be any faith when I return?”  Seems that some of the Bishops are working overtime to make sure that prophecy comes true.

You can read more about it here:

Aren’t you glad that the Bishops give us wonderful Christmas presents like this?  I know I am.

Ruthenian Christmas Carols

Published by John Gibson under Uncategorized

Last night I was at Church and Realized that we have Christmas Carols that others don’t have.  One of my favorites is called “Heaven and Earth”  I will post the lyrics and I am working on getting an MP3 of the music.

Heaven and Earth

Heaven and earth, heaven and earth
Now welcome their Redeemer.
Angels and people, angels and people
Join in a celebration.
: Salvation is begun, born is the Virgin’s Son;
Angels voices ringing, Wise Men gifts are bringing;
Shepherds tell the story, star proclaims the glory;
Christ is born in Bethlehem.

In Bethlehem, in Bethlehem
God’s Word is given birth.
Born of a Virgin, born of a virgin,
Master of heaven and earth.
: Salvation is begun, born is the Virgin’s Son;
Angels voices ringing, Wise Men gifts are bringing;
Shepherds tell the story, star proclaims the glory;
Christ is born in Bethlehem.

Update:  I am finding a large amount of Midi files… I truly hate midi files because the sound CHEESY…  Looking for a good MP3.  Hopefully my Choir director has one.

Byzantine Liturgy and Man’s capacity to ignore God

Published by John Gibson under Byzantine, Catholicism, Religion

If liturgy is worth doing, then it is worth over doing.  These are the words of my Priest, Father Thomas Loya.  He is right.  One of my observations in my short time here on this planet is that man tends toward minimalism in our religion.

In the early Church in Jerusalem the services could be as long as six hours.  Yet I find that if it is going to be the Liturgy of St. Basil (the longer version of the Divine Liturgy in our Church) that you hear a few people grumbling.

Yet…

If the Lord of the Universe inserted himself into time, and saved us by his death and Resurrection, then we must ask ourselves, do we really believe it?  Do we truly believe that God has saved us?  Do we really believe that God loved us so much that he would become man, and die for us?  I mean do we really believe it?

It seems that most people the event it long past, and Church is a place to go, yet beliefs are something that are left at the door, not something that are taken to the world.  In our world it seems that there are other idols that have taken the place of Christ.

When I first switched rites, a good friend of mine grinned and asked if I was going to introduce the western rites tradition of laying a 50′ scratch on the pavement so as to get out of the parking lot first.

Unfortunately there are those in the Eastern Rites, that leave service after communion, just like the Western Rite.  The Eastern Churches are not immune to the glamor of the modern world.

Merry Christmas

Published by John Gibson under Catholicism, Religion

Well. We just got back from midnight services. Well it didn’t start at midnight. They ended about 20 minutes after midnight.

It was the liturgy of St. Basil. Now there is a guy who could pray. I mean the anaphora is LONG. If you think the roman rite Eucharistic prayer #1 is long then you haven’t seen anything yet.

Anyhoo. Merry Christmas
