Same “stuff” different church

Many converts to catholicism find there are two Churches. The one the read about and the one they find once they join.

This also happens in those who go east. There is the church they read about and the one they find when they join.

Now this isn’t a slam against the church. It is an observation of what is going on in this world and with the Church.

The Church is a divine institution that is made up of human beings; fallen human beings.

Lest we forget

Published by John Gibson under Our Kids Future

I was sitting in my office, just before the day began.  Someone walked into my office and told me the news that the Trade Center was burning.  The internet was clogged as people were trying to get info on what was happening.  We pulled out a television and watched in abject horror as the images flashed across the screen.

I remember seeing the second plane hit the building.  I cried.

TERRORIST ATTACKS

I remember seeing the buildings collapse, and again I cried.

trade-2

Now we are 8 years later, and I believe that we have forgotten, and or pushed the memories into the back of our minds.  I truly Pray that we our our children do not have to live through this again.  But I don’t think it is over by a long shot.

Awaking this morning

Published by John Gibson under Byzantine, Catholicism, Religion

sunrisesm

Lord, as I watch the sun rise, let it remind me of your resurrection, Which is the gateway of my salvation. Lord, today, I ask that you take everything away from me that separates me from you.  Let me not fall into the trap of trying to serve two masters, but let me focus on you; my true master.  Grant me the grace of your spirit today, that I might, bring your to life in this world.  Let my thoughts be your thoughts, let my actions be your actions, let my life be yours.  O Lord let me confess you with my lips, that the world might hear of your glory, let my actions show your glory, and my life show forth your love.  Forgive me my sins, which are many, and turn not your grace away from me, but light my path to true salvation with the light of your Holy Spirit.

Amen

Surrender

Lord Jesus, how I long to be with you, and I know that I have separated myself from you from my own actions, thoughts and deeds. Please do not cast me away into the darkness, or turn your grace away from me, but reach out and heal me, soul and body so that I may become what you wish me to become. Lord Jesus, I ask you to take me and to bend me, forge me in your grace and in your Holy fire and remake me into what you wish me to be. All I ask Lord is that I be able to serve you, and do what you wish. Everything else is nothing. Take from me, everything that separates me from you, so that I may embrace the life which you have planned.

God’s Amazing plan of Salvation

Published by John Gibson under Byzantine, Catholicism, Religion

Last night, my Church, celebrated the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Mary is a linchpin in this plan of Salvation for it was thorough her womb, that Christ, our Savior, would come into the world.  She would be the one that would be overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and conceive the Messiah, no man, or woman since would be so intertwined with the Blessed Trinity.

When you really sit down, and I mean really sit down and think about it.  Trying to put aside every stray thought, and focus on what God did with this woman. Think how this singular woman participated with God in our salvation    When you bring it down to it, there is no way that you cannot call her Blessed.

Troparion – Tone 4

Your Nativity, O Virgin,
Has proclaimed joy to the whole universe!
The Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God,
Has shone from You, O Theotokos!
By annulling the curse,
He bestowed a blessing.
By destroying death, He has granted us eternal Life.

Kontakion – Tone 4

By Your Nativity, O Most Pure Virgin,
Joachim and Anna are freed from barrenness;
Adam and Eve, from the corruption of death.
And we, your people, freed from the guilt of sin, celebrate and sing to you:
The barren woman gives birth to the Theotokos, the nourisher of our life!
